Steamboat Ski Resort is opening up this coming Wednesday, Nov. 23, with the most amount of terrain on opening day than the mountain has had in eight years. There has been five-feet of pre-season snowfall and the snowmaking team has been taking advantage of below-average temperatures. Here’s Steamboat Resort President Rob Perlman.
“We are over the moon excited to get started with skiing and snowboarding. It’s been a long summer and winter is here. It’s going to be great next Wednesday.”
Skiers and riders will enjoy lift access from Christie Peak Express, the Gondola, Burgess Creek, and two base area magic carpets. A total of 17 trails will be open offering nearly 100 acres of terrain. Once again, that’s next Wednesday.

There is a Celebration of Life Saturday for 25-year-old Nick Simon of Steamboat Springs, who died last month in a car accident in New Zealand. It is from 3-6 p.m. at Strings Pavilion tomorrow. There will be a livestream feed.
A foundation called Share the Stoke has also been set up in Nick’s name. It’s to share opportunities to experience the thrill of outdoor sport and wild land exploration.
Here’s what is happening this weekend, starting tonight.
The Harlem Wizards are back in Craig for fun against Moffat County officials and teachers. It’s Friday, Nov. 18, at the Moffat County High School gym. The event is presented by the PAC at Sandrock Elementary. Purchase tickets in advance Or https://pretix.eu/harlemwizards/carig/
The Steamboat Chamber Singers take the stage for a special concert at 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday night, Nov. 18-19. It’s at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Steamboat. The concert is called “Giving Thanks for Simple Gifts.” Tickets are available at the door.
Concordia Lutheran Church is having their 38th annual Christmas Bazaar from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday. This is off of Amethyst in Steamboat. You’ll find cookies, crafts, and lots of food.
The Yampa Arts & Craft Fair is Saturday. It’s the 41st year for the event. It’s from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. tomorrow at South Routt Elementary School in Yampa.
The Christmas Bazaar in Baggs, Wyoming, is from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. tomorrow. It’s at the Valley Community Center.
The Gravy Train 5K Fun Run is Saturday morning at Loudy-Simpson Park in Craig. Register at 8 a.m. and the race starts at 9 a.m. It’s $5 per person or bring five non-perishable items for the Interfaith Food Bank. If you want to dress up, there will be prizes for the top three best outfits.
Escape the Darkness! REPS, which is Reaching Everyone Preventing Suicide, is teaming up with the Crooked Key Escape Rooms in Steamboat Springs for discounted admission on Sunday, Nov. 20. Pay to get in plus make a donation to REPS in memory of Logan Singer who loved escape rooms. Donations will be matched by The Barley and The Carpet Shoppe.
The Turkey Jam is Monday, at Howelsen Hill. This is a free community rail jam, open to the public at Howelsen Hill. Bring a helmet and your gear and join the fun. Kids 15 and under are on the rails from 11 to noon. It opens up for those 16 and over at 12.
