Steamboat Ski Resort is open for the season, as is the new Skeeter’s Ice Rink. It was a festive first day on Wednesday, and Steamboat’s Director of Skiing, Billy Kidd, was there to enjoy it all.
Billy Kidd started with Steamboat back in 1970 so he’s approaching his 53rd season with the mountain.
Skeeter’s Ice Rink was officially dedicated, with Deb Werner cutting the ribbon.
Steamboat Resort presented a $50,000 check to Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club.
All of the past Hazie Werner Award winners were honored.
The Turkey Trot brought out 549 runners and walkers Thursday morning. The 5K started at Steamboat Springs High School and is a fundraiser for the track and field team there. Daniel Bloom of Loveland was the fastest male and Pearson Alspach of Steamboat was the fastest female.
The Holiday Season has kicked off this Thanksgiving weekend.
Light up the Night is tonight down on the front lawn of the historic Routt County Courthouse on Lincoln Ave. in Steamboat Springs. The big Christmas trees will be officially lit up for the holiday season at 6 p.m.
Do your holiday shopping in downtown Steamboat Springs. Saturday is Small Business Saturday.
The Tree Lighting Ceremony in downtown Craig is Saturday night. That starts at 5:30 p.m.
Parade of Lights in Downtown Craig starts at 6 p.m. Saturday night. The Craig Chamber says you’re welcome to watch from The Yampa Building. Also at Bank of Colorado, where there will also be hot chocolate and apple cider.
The Colorado Parks and Wildlife office in Steamboat Springs, along with the U.S. Forest Service office will be closed today for the holiday. They’ll open back up on Saturday. Call Routt County Dispatch if you have an emergency.
Today is Fresh Air Friday. Colorado Parks and Wildlife says it’s free to enter all Colorado state parks today. This is the 8th year for Fresh Air Friday which encourages people to take some time over the Thanksgiving weekend to create new outdoor memories and live life outside.
Opening Day for Howelsen Hill Ski Area is Saturday. A lift ticket at Howelsen Hill is $43 dollars for adults and $31 dollars for youth and seniors. But Sundays are free at Howelsen Hill for Ski Free Sundays. Check in at the base area first to get your free lift ticket. However, Howelsen Hill will be CLOSED on Sunday, Christmas Day, this year. The Historic Howelsen Hill Ski Area is North America’s oldest continuously operated ski area, since 1915. This is its 107th year. The last limited deer and elk hunting season ends this Sunday.
Your pet can pose with Santa NEXT Sunday, Dec. 11. It’s from 1-4 p.m. at Casey’s Pond, hosted by Routt County Humane Society. The suggested donation is $15 per pic.
