“I am truly honored to have been entrusted to lead the Senate Agriculture & Natural Resources Committee as its Chair. And with our state’s natural resources under threat due to an unprecedented drought and historic wildfires, it is more important now than ever that we protect our water, our agriculture industries, and our Colorado way of life. And that’s what I will do as chair of this committee in the State Senate. And I look forward to collaborating with my Democratic and Republican colleagues to debate and pass bills through our committee that delivers solutions for our state’s agriculture industry and protect our natural resources here in Western Colorado.”

Senator-Elect Roberts will also serve on the Judiciary Committee and the Local Government & Housing Committee. Senator-Elect Roberts represents Northwest Colorado.

Representative Elect and Steamboat Springs High School teacher Meghan Lukens will serve on the Education Committee. She has also been appointed to the Agriculture-Water-Natural Resources Committee.

“Agriculture is so important in House District 26, to our economy, to our culture, to our communities, and to our heritage. And I look forward to working with our ranchers and our farmers to really get results and advocate for our agricultural communities at the State Legislature.”

Lukens is the Representative-Elect for House District 26, which serves Routt, Moffat, Rio Blanco, and Eagle counties.

Both Lukens and Roberts will be meeting with the Colorado Cattlemen’s Association next month, when they have their annual meeting. Philip Anderson is the president of the Colorado Cattlemen’s Association and a native of neighboring Jackson County.

“We’re going to visit the capitol. And then we’re asking the legislators to come back to the hotel with us for a reception that afternoon. It will be a good time for us to network with both sides of the aisle, the Republicans and the Democrats. We’re really looking forward this year to trying to make sure that we get some input into the Agriculture Committee so that we can go forward with some of the laws that are going to be coming our way. It’s so important that we talk instead of argue. We cannot be on both sides of the fence. We can’t be in the middle of the fence. We have to cooperate with everybody.”

The Steamboat Sailors have some big games this weekend, for the home openers of the basketball season. Senior Austin Moore says they hope to fill the gym with Sailor fans.

“We’re facing two of the elitist teams that made it to the Elite 8 last year. We’re expecting a good game. We want everyone to come out and cheer on Sailors Sports. We hope to see you there.”

Friday night’s game is at 6 p.m. against Centaurus and Saturday’s game is at 4 p.m. against Lewis Palmer, both at home. Listen on KTYV 105.7 Sports on FM or through our website.

“I’m super excited for what we have going this year. All of my coaches and teachers and everybody here have been really good sports.”

The Moffat County Boys are away against Rawlins tonight.

In wrestling, there is a tournament for the Sailors and Bulldogs boys teams in Grand Junction. Soroco boys are in West Grand Saturday.

The Soroco and Moffat County wrestling girls are headed to the UNC Christmas Tournament in Greeley. It’s the first year for the Moffat County girls team. Twenty girls wrestle for the Bulldogs, including five girls from Hayden. Here’s Moffat County Senior Makaela Simpson

“I think it’s amazing. It’s a new thing and no one really knew what they were doing. Now that everyone is getting the hang of it, everyone is doing pretty well, so that’s exciting.”
