A 65-year-old man from Kentucky died in a ski accident at Steamboat Resort Friday. Routt County Coroner Mitch Locke says the man crashed into a tree well. He was skiing with his son on the Morningside area of the mountain. Tree wells are especially dangerous right now because of the deep snow this season.
Sarah Leonard has been named the new CEO of the Steamboat Springs Chamber. Leonard was born and raised in Steamboat Springs and has been with the Chamber for eight years as Director of Business & Community Development. She is also the former Director of Special Events and Sponsorships at the Chamber. Leonard takes over as the CEO from Kara Stoller who announced her resignation from the position after six years at the helm and a 15-year career at the Chamber. Leonard starts her new role at the Chamber on Jan. 27.
Longtime Routt County rancher Jo Stanko has been appointed as the Regional Assistant Commissioner of Agriculture. She will serve as a liaison between the Colorado Department of Agriculture, and her community of Northwest Colorado, and other agriculture communities across the state.
Stanko begins her job with the Colorado Department of Agriculture on Feb. 6.
Steamboat Springs Police Patrol Officer Brian Arthur has been promoted to sergeant. Arthur grew up in Hawaii but moved to Colorado when he was 13. He has been working for the Steamboat Springs Police Department since 2017.
Sunday night was the Cowboy Up Candle Burn. It was supposed to be a Balloon Glow but it was too snowy for the balloon pilots to inflate their balloons. The six balloon pilots still set up their baskets and burned their flames at the base.
Today is the 48th Annual Bud Light Cowboy Downhill. Cowboys and cowgirls from the National Western Stock Show are having fun all day long at the base of Steamboat Resort so head on over for some fun.
