Westbound I-70 traffic was re-routed through Northwest Colorado for most of the day Tuesday. Glenwood Canyon closed when four commercial vehicles were involved in a crash on the westbound part of I-70. One vehicle was a tanker truck carrying gasoline. About 7,000 gallons of gas had to be drained and transferred into another tanker. A hazardous vehicle crew had to clean up the other 3,000 gallons that spilled after the crash. When Glenwood Canyon closes, traffic is re-routed on Hwy 40 through Kremmling, Steamboat Springs, Hayden, Craig, Meeker and Rifle.

Roads have been slick and Colorado State Patrol wants to remind everyone to be careful and be aware of conditions. The storm hitting the state today is hitting the Front Range and Eastern Plains the hardest. Multi-vehicle accidents Tuesday afternoon shut down Routt County Road 27 near Oak Creek for awhile. An alert was sent out by Routt County about the road closures in the area.

Northwest Colorado has a Winter Weather Advisory, but it is a Winter Weather Warning for the Front Range. This means a potential for flight changes and cancellations. Check with the airlines if you have a flight today, whether out of Yampa Valley Regional Airport in Hayden or out of DIA in Denver.
Avalanche conditions are rated as “Considerable” today. This is for parts of Medicine Bow and Routt National Forests north of Steamboat Springs, also west of Meeker, and down east of Yampa and Toponas areas. Heavy snowfall has made the snowpack unstable. Avoid steep terrain and check avalanche conditions before heading in the backcountry. Avalanche conditions drop down to “Moderate” on Thursday, according to Colorado Avalanche Information Center.
