The cost of tuition and fees is going up at Colorado Mountain College. The Board of Trustees approved the increases this week, to go into effect in the fall. They include $5 more per credit hour for in-district and in-state rates. Non-resident rates go up $30 per credit hour. Food services at three campuses, including Steamboat Springs, will increase by $200 per semester.
Steamboat Resort now has an official Avalanche Dog Program. The newest team members are Daisy and Mudd and they just met. Both dogs are starting their training on the mountain so you might see them on the slopes. They’re learning how to load chairlifts and search in the snow. Daisy and Mudd join Powder, who is the official safety dog. The new Avalanche Dog Program is in preparation for the planned expansion into Pioneer Ridge which will add over 650 acres of terrain.
Those interested in the overall vision of Howelsen Hill are invited to a discussion tonight. Steamboat Springs City Councilman Michael Buccino is organizing the gathering to hear from different user groups, and how the venue at Howelsen Hill could better benefit the community.
The panel discussion on Howelsen Hill is at 6 p.m. tonight at the Steamboat Christian Center at 821 Dougherty Road.
The 26th Annual Diamond & Spurs Dinner Dance is Saturday night, presented by the Craig Rotary. Money raised supports local scholarships and literacy programs. The event is at the Pavilion at the Moffat County Fairgrounds. At the Diamond & Spurs Dinner, the Craig Rotary Club will recognize Becky Plummer with Northwest Colorado Health for her work locals and veterans with the VFW. She’ll be awarded with the Bill and Nancy Muldoon Humanitarian Award for embodying the Rotary ideal of Service Above Self. Reach out to a Craig Rotary member for tickets.
Hayden’s Boot Scootin’ Ball is Saturday night, Jan. 28, at the Hayden Center. Line dancing and swing instruction starts at 6 p.m. and the Community Dance party is from 7-9 p.m. All ages are invited and it is free.
The Steamboat Sailors Dance Team is holding a Community Clinic for all ages. It’s at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 28 at Steamboat Springs High School. It’s $10. The kids will learn a routine and then perform it on Feb. 3 at a Sailors Basketball game. The Junior World Championships team for Ski Jumping and Nordic Combined has been announced with five athletes from Steamboat Springs. It’s the fourth Junior Worlds appearance for Erik Belshaw in Ski Jumping. Jason Colby also made it in Ski Jumping. It’s the fifth Junior Worlds for Niklas Malacinski and Tess Arnone in Nordic Combined. Alexa Brabec also returns for the fourth time in Nordic Combined. The Junior World Championships are Feb. 1-5 in Whistler, Canada.
It’s Senior Night for Steamboat Sailor Hockey teams this weekend. Friday night, the girls play rival Aspen. The puck drops at 6:45 p.m. at Howelsen Ice Arena. Those four seniors are Avery Duty, Margaux Shea, Bella Story, and Madi Yamashita. Those who go to the game will be entered into a drawing to win gift cards from some local businesses.
Senior Night for the boys is Saturday, as the Sailors take on Battle Mountain High School. There are 14 Sailor Seniors on the 22-man roster. The puck drops at 6:15 p.m. Saturday at Howelsen Ice Arena. We’ll be there. Listen on KTYV 105.7 Sports on FM.
