The Steamboat Springs Post Office has needed some cleaning. There isn’t a custodian and employees have been doing what they can, when they can. Paula Black says she is a concerned citizen who lives in Steamboat Springs.
“A bunch of us got together and we were having conversations and with everyone I talked to, they said, ‘The post office is a mess and we need to do something.’ And everyone said, ‘Yes, we need to do something.’”
Black says she mentioned it at the Tuesday afternoon Rotary meeting. Some of the Rotarians and her other friends volunteered. Six of them went to the Steamboat Springs Post Office on Saturday to do a test run to see how long it takes to clean it up.
“We’re sweeping, we’re vacuuming, and we’re dusting the window sills, and the heaters where they are not falling apart. We’re taking out the trash and the recycles.”
The U.S. Postal Service out of Denver has been trying to hire a custodian for Steamboat Springs for several months now. The corporate office expects to post the opening again. Until then, Black and friends plan to try to clean up the local post office at least twice a week.
And they all want to remind patrons to please take your mail home to sort it instead of sorting it and leaving it at the local post office.
If you want to help with the cleaning up at the Steamboat Springs Post Office, email Paula Black at PCBlack65@comcast.net. In the heading, put PO Cleanup.
