Referees for high school girls lacrosse are desperately needed. There are only three for the six Mountain League teams, which includes Steamboat Springs High School. There are 15 games for each of the six high schools in the mountain league.

Betsy Frick of Steamboat Springs is one of the referees. “We are looking at only having one official for many games (less than ideal) or cancelling high school games which affects >12 players per team and has potential ramifications for teams qualifying for post-season play.” Frick started officiating in Georgia and has been an official in Colorado for ten years. All officials are certified and trained by USA Lacrosse and the Colorado Women’s Lacrosse Association.

Training is available online. All CHSAA sports are looking for officials.

Frick says she and Randy Schouten are happy to answer any questions and/or mentor new officials. Schouten is the assigner for the Mountain League boys and girls lacrosse officials which includes Steamboat Springs, Summit, Battle Mountain, Eagle Valley, Roaring Fork, and Aspen high schools.
