All local Department of Motor Vehicles offices were shut down for awhile Tuesday because of a statewide internet problem. That includes in Routt and Moffat counties. Local offices were open. They just couldn’t do any transactions.
A large pine tree fell over Routt County Road 36 Monday night, just before the Strawberry Park Hot Springs. Vehicles could still go under it. Routt County Road and Bridge was able to get the tree cleared early Tuesday morning.

Dr. Matthew Rice has been chosen as the new Board of Education member for the Steamboat Springs School District. He fills the vacancy of board member Kim Brack who resigned because she moved. Dr. Rice is a retired Army veteran of 32 years who moved to Steamboat Springs in 2019. He has two students in the district.
Kate Nowak has been chosen as the 2023 Hazie Werner Award Winner. Nowak is the Executive Director of Routt County United Way and has been serving the Steamboat Springs community for 25 years. The Hazie Werner Award & Snowball Grant reception will be at the Ore House at the Pine Grove at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, March 2. Everyone is invited. Two Snowball Community Grants will be presented by Steamboat Ski Resort. One is to the Mount Zirkel Legacy Fund with Routt County United Way. The second is to the Routt County Council on Aging.
Adam Frisch has announced he will run again against US Congresswoman Lauren Boebert. Frisch lost by 546 votes in November. This is for Colorado Congressional District 3 which includes Moffat and Rio Blanco counties.
Residents in Phippsburg are being reminded to pay your 2023 membership dues to the Phippsburg Community Club. It’s $3 per household. Here’s Verna Whaley, who has lived in South Routt County for 95 years.
“It helps with our streetlights, our park, anyone that’s ill and needs some help, we help them. We pay to both Yampa and Oak Creek Fire Department and ambulance department. We also give to the senior citizens. We give to wherever is needed.”
Phippsburg also raises money through their Rummage Store in the old church at Third and Pine Streets. Verna is a volunteer.
“You name it, we’ve got it. We’ve got bedding to appliance, a lot of clothing, kitchenware, pots and pans. You name it.”
Drop off that $3 at the Phippsburg Rummage Store Thursday, which is the only day the store is open each week. Hours are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Reggie Scofield will be waiting for you at the front door.
Moffat County 4-H is having an Open House. It’s at 5:30 p.m. tonight at the Pavilion at the Moffat County Fairgrounds.
