Residents in Phippsburg are being reminded to pay your 2023 membership dues to the Phippsburg Community Club. It’s $3 per household. Dues help pay for a lot of things in Phippsburg, according to Verna Whaley, who has lived in South Routt County for 95 years.

“It helps with our streetlights, our park, anyone that’s ill and needs some help, we help them. We pay to both Yampa and Oak Creek Fire Department and ambulance department. We also give to the senior citizens. We give to wherever is needed.”

Phippsburg also raises money through their Rummage Store. It’s at Third and Pine Streets, in the old church. Verna is a volunteer.

“You name it, we’ve got it. We’ve got bedding to appliances, a lot of clothing, kitchenware, pots and pans. You name it.”

Reggie Scofield works in the old parsonage building which is full of clothes and shoes, and more.

“You can find some treasures. There’s an example. An antique nutcracker that someone else has on Ebay for $120. We have an antique sewing machine that comes from the 1920s. We have dishes and china and just so many things that are old. And many many many times when you come in, you can find a shirt on the dollar rack that still has the tag on it for $50 bucks. We get lots of clothes. There’s a brand new leather coat over there. We get clothes that nobody’s ever worn and the tags are still on and we sell them anywhere from a dollar to $10.” How much is the nutcracker? “50”

Reggie is waiting with a money box, to collect that $3 dollars from every household in Phippsburg. There are 210 of them, or so. She asks that you stop by the thrift store on Thursday with your money. Thursdays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. is the only day that it is open. It’s at 3rd and Pine in Phippsburg. Look for the only church in town.

And if you can’t make it to the Phippsburg Rummage Store on Thursday, you can mail your $3 in dues to P.O. Box 1 in Phippsburg.

Here’s more on the rummage store in Phippsburg. It was started in about 1971 at the old school but the building burned down. When the church closed, they moved the rummage store into the church building and the buildings associated with it. It’s all organized through the Phippsburg Community Club. You can see pictures on the walls. Verna Whaley says folks visit from all around the area, from Craig to Kremmling.

All of the buildings on the old church property are filled with treasures like toys and clothes, shoes, and purses, dishes and pots and pans and knives. There are prom dresses and games and cards and bikes and books and furniture and jewelry. Here are some pictures.
