Multiple athletes post career-best results at singles and dual events
STEAMBOAT SPRINGS, Colo. – SSWSC athletes had a fantastic weekend at the Rocky Mountain Freestyle Regional Event at Copper Mountain, February 11-12, 2023. Fresh off the NorAm at Deer Valley, the softer and more mellow course on Copper was the perfect fit for the team in the singles competition. The women showed up, earning the top five places for the day. Anabel Ayad took 1st, Izzy Powell 2nd, Ella Walker 3rd, Abrianna Gordon 4th, and Mia Satkiewicz with a career-best 5th. Leah Sullivan earned her best finish to date, placing 10th overall.
The men earned the top two spots; Peyton Billeisen won the event with the fastest time of the day, by over 2 seconds, and Xander Tatar-Brown was 2nd, earning a perfect ten on his Cork 1080. Liam Siefken had his top result to date, earning 9th overall. Teus Deering did his first cork in competition and ended the day in 15th.
After crushing the field and securing the top spots, nine athletes busted home to put on a show at the Night Extravaganza during Winter Carnival with just one practice run before flipping in the dark for the crowd!
The rest of the freestyle athletes stayed in Copper for the duals competition on Sunday. Izzy Powell lit things up, taking the first win of her career. The other athletes got valuable head-to-head experience and look forward to their next duals opportunity.
