Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club Athletes Named to World Championship Teams
Fourteen athletes will compete in the World Championships for their sport
STEAMBOAT SPRINGS, Colo. – Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club announced today that 14 athletes with ties to the club will compete for the United States in the World Championships in their sport. “For each of these athletes, competing at the international level and representing their country at the world championships has been a dream they have pursued since they were children, said SSWSC Athletic Director Dave Stewart. “At the SSWSC, we are so proud to have helped coach, mentor, and support them on their journey to the pinnacle of their sports. It is also truly remarkable and a reflection of our community that we will have SSWSC athletes competing at the world championships in all of our sport disciplines: alpine, cross country, snowboarding, freestyle, freeskiing, ski jumping, and nordic combined.”

SSWSC Alumni Jett Seymour
Jett Seymour was named to the U.S. World Alpine Ski Championship Team just days after finishing his career-best 7th place in a World Cup. Last weekend he won his first Europa Cup slalom and placed 2nd the next day. He will race this weekend in the slalom on Sunday, February 19, in Courchevel Mèribel, France.

SSWSC Coach David Norris
David Norris was named to the U.S. World Cross Country Ski Championship Team and will compete in Planica, Slovenia, February 22-March 6, 2023. It is his third time on the team on the World Championship Team. Coach Norris was third overall and second U.S. skier in the 10K skate race during the U.S. Cross Country Ski Nationals in Houghton, MI, back in early January and 2nd in the 20K classic mass start race, 1.9 seconds behind the winner.

SSWSC Alumni and Coach Mick Dierdorff
Mick Dierdorff was named to the U.S. Snowboard World Championship Snowboardcross Team and will compete in the snowboardcross events in Bakuriani, Georgia, Feb. 19 – March 5, 2023. Dierdorff narrowly missed a podium spot at the World Cup in Cervinia, Italy, on December 16, placing 4th overall. It is his third time on the World Championship Team.

SSWSC Alumni Cody Winters
Cody Winters was named to the U.S. Snowboard World Championship Men’s Parallel Team and will compete in the parallel events in Bakuriani, Georgia, from February 19 – March 5, 2023. It is his third time on the team. His most recent finish in a World Cup was 19th place in Cortina d’Ampezzo, Italy, on February 4.
SSWSC Alumni Jaelin Kauf
Jaelin Kauf was named to the U.S. Freestyle Ski World Championships Team, her fourth time on the team. She has had multiple podium finishes this season, most recently in Deer Valley last week, where she placed 2nd in the dual moguls and 2nd in moguls, and 3rd in Val St. Come, Italy, back in January. She will compete in the World Championships in Bakuriani, Georgia, on February 19 – March 5, 2023.

Olivia Giaccio was named to the U.S. Freestyle Ski World Championships Team. This is her third time on the team. Giaccio recently placed 4th in the World Cup dual moguls event on February 11 in Chiesa in Valmalenco, Italy, 9th in Deer Valley on February 4, and 5th in Val St. Come on January 28. She will compete in the World Championships in Bakuriani, Georgia, on February 19 – March 5, 2023.
SSWSC Alumni Riley Jacobs
Riley Jacobs was named to the U.S. Freeski World Ski Championships Women’s Halfpipe Team. This is her first time on the team. Jacobs won the NorAm in Copper Mountain on January 25 and placed 12th in the World Cup on February 3. She will compete in the World Championships in Bakuriani, Georgia, on February 19 – March 5, 2023.

2023 USA Nordic FIS Nordic World Ski Championships Teams
Five SSWSC alumni and one current SSWSC athlete were named to the USA Nordic FIS Nordic World Ski Championships Teams. Erik Belshaw and Decker Dean were named to the men’s ski jumping team. Annika Belshaw was named to the women’s ski jumping team. Niklas Malacinski will represent the US on the men’s nordic combined team, and Annika Malacinski and Alexa Brabec will race in the women’s nordic combined. Athletes will compete in events on February 22-March 4, 2023, in Planica, Slovenia.
Grant Andrews has been named to the Men’s Nordic Combined team by USA Nordic.
