The application period for Colorado big game licenses begins Wednesday, March 1. Colorado Parks and Wildlife is asking hunters to make sure to read the 2023 Colorado Big Game Brochure before the primary draw application period begins. It’s March 1 through April 4. Hunters are also encouraged to submit applications early.

The Upper Knoll Parking lot at the ski area is closed today and the Lower Knoll Parking lot closes tomorrow. Both will be closed through March 7 for WinterWonderGrass.

 

Two or more members of the Moffat County Board of County Commissioners may attend a meeting with the Craig City Council and the Just Transition committee today, to discuss Just Transition funding opportunities. That’s at Craig City Hall at 4 p.m.

 

The Moffat County Commissioners meet Tuesday morning for their regular meeting. Staff reports are from Road & Bridge, Development Services, Human Services, and HR.

 

The Haven Assisted Living in Hayden is hosting an Open House Tuesday. It’s from 3:30-5 p.m. at 300 S. Shelton Lane in Hayden. There will be activities and prizes and you can do some cross country skiing or snowshoeing on the groomed trails there.

 

The directors for this year’s Cabaret are meeting to brainstorm with collaborators. It’s at 6:30 p.m. tonight at The Depot. The theme is “Deep in the Heart of Steamboat.” Cabaret is Mothers Day weekend, May 11, 12, and 13th.

The Steamboat Sailors Hockey Team have their first game in the state playoffs at 6:15 p.m. tomorrow night against Kent Denver. That game is at Howelsen Ice Arena. We’ll be there. Listen on KTYV 105-7 Sports on FM.

 

The Sailors Basketball team lost their state playoff game over the weekend, ending the season overall at 18-7.

 

The Moffat County High School DECA team is competing at the State DECA championship through Tuesday. Seventeen students are there representing the Bulldogs.

 

High School spring sports teams are scheduled to take to the field today (Monday, Feb. 27). It’s the first day of practice. All the snow has been cleared.

 

In the American Birkebeiner, Steamboat’s David Norris won North America’s biggest XC ski race. He is a coach with SSWSC. Fellow coach Jessica Yeaton of Steamboat was 2nd in the women’s race on Saturday. David will next compete in the FIS Nordic World Championships in Slovenia.

Jaelin Kauf has a pair of silver medals in moguls and dual moguls from the World Championships in Bakuriani, Georgia. Kauf is a 2014 graduate of Steamboat Springs High School.

 

Keenan Hayes of Hayden placed second at the San Antonio Stock Show and Rodeo which helped propel him into being ranked #1 in the world in Bareback Riding.
