The Moffat County Coroner’s office has identified the man who died in last Friday’s shooting in Craig as 52-year-old Craig resident Christopher Rothermund. It happened when Craig Police and Moffat County Sheriff’s Officers tried to make contact with Rothermund outside the Cool Water Grille on Victory Way in Craig. Rothermund was wanted on an outstanding warrant. A press release from the Colorado Bureau of Investigation says Rothermund ran from officers and displayed a firearm, which is when the shooting happened. The death is still under investigation.
A Steamboat Springs man died Saturday in a two-vehicle accident on Hwy 14, near Mile Post 17 which is on the way to Walden. The Jackson County Coroner says 82-year-old Kenneth Manley died at the scene. His dog was with him and is OK. Colorado State Patrol says Manley’s vehicle went into the opposite lane and crashed with a Freightliner truck and was pushed into a snowbank. CSP says no alcohol or drugs were involved. Excessive speed was not an issue and both men were wearing their seatbelts.
Buckle up. A “Click it or Ticket” enforcement campaign starts today. Local law enforcement, the Colorado Department of Transportation, and Colorado State patrol are implementing seat belt enforcement through April 19. Last year, 969 unbuckled passenger vehicle occupants were given tickets statewide. Ten of those were unrestrained children.
“CLICK IT OR TICKET” INCREASED ENFORCEMENT IS APRIL 3-19

The Moffat County Girls Golf team is getting ready for tournaments. Head Coach Tim Adams says it has been hard for the five girls on the team to practice with so much snow this season.
“The first time they’ll be on grass will be when we got to Montrose. So it will be a little bit of a challenge for them.”
The Lady Bulldogs have two seniors on the team. Reagan Hafey and Taylor Powell both made it to the state tournament last year. Coach Adams says it’s a great group of girls.
“All of them are good kids and good students from good families. That’s probably the highlight of the season for me, honestly.”
The Moffat County Girls play in Montrose on Tuesday and Wednesday, April 4-5.
