Moffat County offices, with the exception of Road and Bridge, are closed this week so that staff can move into the new courthouse. Most county offices also won’t have access to email or phone services. All county offices are expected to re-open to the public on April 17 at the new courthouse, which is in the old Kmart building at 1198 W. Victory Way.
Moffat County Courts, Probation, and District Attorney’s offices move starting April 14 and reopen to the public on April 19.
Exterior construction isn’t finished yet because of all of the snow this winter.
An official dedication of the new courthouse is planned for Sept. 9.
Moffat County Undersheriff Charlene Abdella has retired after 16 years with the Moffat County Sheriff’s Office. Before that, Abdella was with the Craig Police Department, starting back in 1989.
The Department of Local Affairs (DOLA) has awarded $19M in grants across Colorado communities. The City of Craig will receive $1.5M for the 8th Street Redevelopment.
The Rangely Police Department says a patrol vehicle for a Colorado Parks and Wildlife officer was broken into on April 7. Two patrol rifles were stolen. Rangely Police is asking for help if you have any information on those stolen firearms. The winner of the Pond Skim at Steamboat Resort Sunday afternoon was Ian Haupt.
One man went rogue and poached onto the course and into the pond, while another pond skimmer was already in there. Steamboat Security called Steamboat Springs Police who gave the man a warning for skiing while intoxicated and trespassing, and he was escorted off the property by police officers.

Residents of Alpenglow Village apartments are expected to finally get keys to their cluster boxes today. It’s been confirmed by Yampa Valley Housing Authority that the manager has the keys. The housing authority has been asking U.S. Post Office officials to make it happen for over two and a half years so that residents don’t have to pay for a P.O. box at the main post office in Steamboat Springs. The boxes were re-keyed two weeks ago. We’ll let you know.
Congressman Joe Neguse visited the Steamboat Springs Post Office Friday. He says his staff will continue to work on why local residents have to pay for a P.O. Box when they have no other way to get their mail.
The trees along the 10th Street Parking Lot are being removed Monday and Tuesday for the new City Hall building and Fire Station. The lot will be closed. The new landscaping plan calls for a dozen new trees of various sizes to go in.

Summer service hours begin today for Steamboat Springs Transit, even though Steamboat Resort is still open through April 16.

Steamboat Springs School District has named Kristen Atwood as the Director of Exceptional Student Services. She has been a special education teacher at Sleeping Giant School. Dr. Tim Ridder will be the district’s Director of Teaching and Learning. He is the current principal at Summit High School in Breckenridge.
The winner of the First Sandhill Crane sighting of the year is Garrett Grieve from Baggs, Wyoming. He saw a few sandhill cranes in north Moffat County on March 7.
Craig Hockey Association has their spring meeting Monday. It’s at 5:30 p.m. tonight at the VFW in Craig.
