Steamboat Springs Police have transitioned to online reporting when there is a traffic accident with damage only, and also when there is a minor criminal incident, within city limits. Look for the Online Reporting link on SteamboatSprings.net/police. There is also a link there for the Department of Motor Vehicles website for reporting traffic accidents online. Once processed, a police officer will follow up.

Here is a press release from the City of Steamboat Springs; April 13, 2023.

Reporting Moves Online For Minor Traffic & Criminal Incidents

Digital Reporting Accessed Through steamboatsprings.net/police

STEAMBOAT SPRINGS, COLORADO-April 13, 2023-The Steamboat Springs Police Department (SSPD) has transitioned to online reporting for damage-only traffic accidents and minor criminal incidents within city limits.

“We’ve seen a substantial increase in call volume for these particular occurrences,” said Records Supervisor Sarah Larson. “With the move to online reporting, we believe the customer will be able to address their incident quicker and from the digital device of their choice.”

Instead of calling Routt County Communications to report these incidents, individuals will file an online report by going to steamboatsprings.net/police, then click on “ONLINE REPORTING” in left navigation pane. Use the navigation pane to select and complete the desired report. There is also a link to the DMV website for online traffic accident reporting. Once the report is complete and has been processed, a SSPD officer will follow up.

Online reporting is now available for the following occurrences:

Minor Traffic Accident Minor Criminal Incident Qualifying Incident
Involved in a minor traffic accident that:

o   Has no injuries

o   No suspicion of alcohol or drug usage

o   Is a Hit & Run with no run vehicle information

o   There is no damage to public property

o   No vehicles are disabled and require a tow

o   The accident occurs during an accident alert (typically during inclement weather)

Victim of a minor criminal incident such as:

o   Lost property

o   Harassing phone calls

o   Theft

o   Vandalism / Criminal Mischief

o   Vehicle Burglary / Tampering

o   Any Informational items / reports

And the incident:

o   Is not emergent or in-progress/actively occurring

o   Does not involve a firearm

o   There is no known suspect information

o   No physical evidence

During the online transition, Records staff is available to walk individuals through the digital reporting process if they encounter issues or have questions. Contact Records at 970.879.4344 during business hours for assistance.
