The Hayden School District has chosen Eric Owen of Colorado Springs as the new superintendent of Hayden Valley Schools. Owen’s contract is expected to be approved at the May 8 school board meeting, pending successful contract negotiations and a final background check. The school board hopes the new superintendent can start on July 1. Owen says he is “eager to become a member of the Hayden community.” Owen replaces Christy Sinner who is retiring in June.
Moffat County School District Board of Education is having a Work Session at 5 p.m. tonight, before their board meeting at 6:30. Policies will be discussed, including staff conduct and responsibilities. Policy hearings are on Support Staff Salaries and evaluations and supplemental employment of retired staff members. Those are all action items during the regular school board meeting at 6:30 p.m. There is also an agenda item for Executive session, regarding a conference with the district attorney for the purpose of receiving legal advice concerning an Investigative Report. The top three finalists in the regional competition of the National Civics Bee heading into the weekend are Rayne Housel from Hayden Valley Middle School in first place. Ryun Pressgrove from Craig Middle School was second. Mercy Fontenot who is homeschooled was third. All three are invited to compete in the statewide competition hosted by the Colorado Chamber of Commerce on May 19.
Tuesday morning, the Moffat County Board of County Commissioners is meeting in their new building. A Moffat County Day of Prayer proclamation is on the agenda. Staff reports are from Candace Miller with Planning & Zoning, Jeff Comstock from the Natural Resources Department, and Rachel Bower with HR. The meeting starts at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday.
The Colorado Department of Transportation has received an extra $45 million dollars from the Transportation Commission of Colorado. It’s to be used to address pavement problems because of the severe and snowy conditions we had this past winter. A good part of that money will be used to fix a lot of potholes in Colorado.
The Attorney General is asking for opinions on the proposed grocery store merger which would include Kroger which owns City Market and Albertson’s which owns Safeway. It’s a $24.6 billion dollar merger that would be finalized early next year. Link for the Attorney General’s survey.
Learn about growing your own garden in the Yampa Valley. Two open houses feature Master Gardeners to give advice for your summer garden. The open houses are from 5-7 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday, April 25-26, in Library Hall at Bud Werner Memorial Library. It’s part of the Routt County CSU Master Gardeners program.
