The first meeting for Moffat County Board of County Commissioners was held in the new Moffat County Courthouse on Tuesday. Here’s Moffat County Commissioner Melody Villard.

The very large, remodeled building in Craig is close to 100,000 square feet with county offices and the county courthouse. There is a dedicated jury room with much improved safety and security and a fire suppression system.
At Tuesday’s Moffat County Commissioner meeting, a group asked commissioners to discuss the second amendment and commissioners agreed to have a workshop with residents to hear their concerns. May 4 will be Moffat County Day of Prayer with a service at noon at the courthouse that day.
The Yampa Valley Golf Association gave an update to commissioners about upcoming improvements at the local golf course, which they hope can open this Saturday.
MOFFAT COUNTY COMMISSIONERS HOLD FIRST MEETING IN NEW COURTHOUSE
Governor Polis has signed two bills into law that support ag producers. One gives consumers and ranchers the right to repair their own agriculture equipment. They used to have to get help from the manufacturer first, which caused delays. The second bill allows internships in the agricultural workforce development program through July 2029.
The deadline for taxpayers to make the final payment on property taxes is April 30. That’s this Sunday. You can pay online through your county’s website or pay in person at the courthouse.

- If you would like to pay in person, our office is open Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
The deadline to apply for a Short-Term Rental License is this Sunday, April 30. This is for licenses within the City of Steamboat Springs. Each short-term rental is required to have one. It’s valid for a year and must be renewed annually. The fee is $250. Rules, regulations, and zones are on the city’s website at SteamboatSprings.net
The Partners organization is looking for some male mentors. This is for Routt and Moffat counties. They have 30 youth on a waitlist and they especially need men to help be a mentor. Applications are at PartnersYouth.org

Craig residents are asked to bring their scrap metal to Axis Steel to safely dispose of it. It’s part of the Recycling Fundraiser for the schools in Moffat County. Whichever school collects the most scrap metal waste before May 15 wins some prize money.
