By Shannon Lukens.

Swimming through the Howelsen Tunnel is not allowed right now, as evidenced by the two inches of air space shown there tonight, on May 8. It’s flooded.

The City of Steamboat Springs has signage and fencing up to remind everyone that the tunnel is closed. The sign says “CLOSED – Trail Flooded Ahead.”

Steamboat Radio News receives news tips every day; some want credit and others want to be anonymous. Here is today’s news tip, sent in from a Steamboat Radio listener, who observed a young person swimming through Howelsen Tunnel today.

DO NOT SWIM THROUGH THE TUNNEL.

DO NOT TRY TO SWIM THROUGH THE TUNNEL.

DO NOT DARE YOUR FRIENDS TO SWIM THROUGH THE TUNNEL.

FRIENDS, TELL YOUR FRIENDS TO NOT SWIM THROUGH THE TUNNEL.

PARENTS, TELL YOUR KIDS TO NOT SWIM THROUGH THE TUNNEL.

Steamboat Springs Police has been notified as has the City of Steamboat Springs to consider putting up more signage. We are also helping to spread the word. Thank you.
