The memorial procession was headed by members of the Routt County Sheriff’s Office and included first responders from throughout Northwest Colorado.

Students in the Med Prep Club at Steamboat Springs High School have been busy making First Aid Kits to sell. Senior Charlie Rosemond says they’re user friendly.
“In these first aid kits, we have PPE for CPR, gloves, things like that. We have medications for low blood sugar, allergies and pain. We have splints for fractures, sprains. We have compression. We have wound care. We have steri strips.”
Maddie Yamashita is also a senior who stresses the importance of having a First Aid Kit in your car.
“These kits are super important because we live in a small town and you never know how long it will take to reach help so it’s best to have it with you to start. And you never know what you’ll run into. We have a lot of tourists here, and with the slippery roads, you never know, you might be the first person to an accident.”
The kids in the club are trying to raise money to buy another AED for the school which is an Automated External Defibrillator. Or a female doll or plate on which to practice CPR since women are 27% less likely to receive CPR because people learn on a male doll. The club certifies about 30 people each year in CPR.
The kits are $75 each and available at the Steamboat Springs High School office. Cash or check only, please.

Boats will again be checked for aquatic nuisance species in Colorado’s lakes and reservoirs. It’s mainly invasive Zebra Mussels, which have been detected at Highline Lake. That’s north of Fruita. In Northwest Colorado, boats will be checked at:
- Elkhead Reservoir
- Pearl Lake
- Rio Blanco Reservoir
- Stagecoach Reservoir
- Steamboat Lake
- Wolford Mountain Reservoir
Last year, Colorado ANS inspectors conducted 446,663 inspections and decontaminated 27,003 boats. Boats that were contaminated usually came into Colorado from neighboring states, especially Utah and Arizona, which is close to Lake Powell, which has been mussel-infested for years.
