Power is out at the substation in Oak Creek. Electrical power in the town is being run by a generator. Western Area Power Administration is working on making the repairs and getting the substation back online as soon as possible. The electrical power outage in Oak Creek happened at noon Tuesday. It was caused by a marmot getting into the substation and causing significant damage.

Grand County has asked for help for a missing person from Pioneer Park Campground in Hot Sulphur Springs. His name is Ari Harms, a white male in his 30s. He was seen entering the Colorado River there in an inflatable kayak. No one has seen him since. The Grand County Sheriff’s Office and Emergency Medical Services have been searching the Colorado River in Byers Canyon and surrounding areas and can’t find him. Call dispatch there if you see him.

A tree-planting team of students, administrators and volunteers helped plant 12 cottonwoods at Steamboat Springs High School Tuesday. It’s to replace the cottonwoods that had to be removed because of construction last year. Thank you to Matt Tredway, Pascal Ginesta, Cactus Beauregard, Brad Weber, and Mitch Clark and to everyone who helped with the efforts.

Flags are being picked up off the graves of those who served in the military and are buried at Steamboat Springs Cemetery. That is at 5:30 p.m. today. That’s from Monday’s Memorial Day service.

The Craig Chamber is hosting a Chamber Mixer on Thursday, June 1. It’s from 5-7 p.m. at the Chamber offices at 775 Yampa Avenue. The community is invited. And it includes JOLT which is the Joint Organizations Leading Transition. And those attending the Northwest Colorado Energy Summit are invited. Featured guests will include support staff for U.S. Senator Michael Bennet.

The Yampa River Festival is June 1-4. It is the 43rd year for the event. The main event to watch is Saturday, June 3rd at the C-Hole behind the library. Friends of the Yampa are paying special attention to high river flows and safety in case any changes have to be made because the water is too high for some bridges in the town stretch. June is Yampa River Month.

The Maybell Rodeo Club hosts the first Gymkhana of the season tonight. The rodeo starts at 6:30 p.m. in the Maybell Arena. It’s $5 per event.

The Craig Swimming Pool complex is set to open June 1. That’s tomorrow. But the wave pool didn’t weather the winter well, so the wave pool is set to open June 7.

Check out what’s happening in the Yampa Valley on the Community Calendar on our website.
