Yampa Valley Electric Association has reached a 15-year agreement with Guzman Energy to provide wholesale power to the cooperative.
YVEA will end its agreement with Xcel Energy, and that should take about five years. This is expected to save tens of millions of dollars for YVEA and its customers. Guzman Energy is based in Denver.

The first Northwest Colorado Energy Summit is Friday and Saturday at the Quality Inn in Craig. Former Moffat County Commissioner Ray Beck says the mission of the summit is to advocate, communicate, and educate about options for energy. Ray Beck is with a group called JOLT which is helping organize the Energy Summit. JOLT stands for Joint Organizations Leading Transition. The power plants and coal mines in Moffat County and in Colorado have been mandated to shut down in the next seven years.

NORTHWEST COLORADO ENERGY SUMMIT RECEIVES MORE SUPPORT

Steamboat Radio News continues to inquire of the U.S. Postal Service officials about why residents of Steamboat Springs and Routt County have to pay for a P.O. Box when they have no other way to get their mail. James Boxrud, with Strategic Communications with the United States Postal Service in Denver, wrote to us saying, “The analysis for Post Office Box Fee determination for each of the 7,062 Steamboat Springs Post Office Boxes is still ongoing. We will inform customers when we’ve made a final determination.”

Steamboat Radio News will keep asking until this is resolved for the community.

Colorado Parks and Wildlife has already had to euthanize two bears in Steamboat Springs. Keep your doors locked on your homes and vehicles at all times. Also scare the bears away by making noise. But don’t to shoot them to haze them which is what may be happening in one Routt County neighborhood. Here’s Colorado Parks and Wildlife Area Wildlife Manager Kris Middledorf.

“You can bang pots and pans. You can make a bunch of noise. But we don’t need people taking it into their own hands, using firearms to shoot at bears.”

Steamboat Radio News has learned of a family of bears in the Tree Haus neighborhood. Neighbors have been making noise to scare them away, but they say one neighbor has been shooting at the bears. Here’s Routt County Undersheriff Josh Carrell.

“We are here to protect everyone, especially if anybody feels unsafe, we encourage you to contact the Routt County Sheriff’s office or law enforcement immediately. We ask that everyone is responsible gun owners who possesses them.”

One neighbor says they have respectfully requested of the neighbor not to shoot a gun at the bears anymore in the neighborhood. If it happens again, neighbors plan to reach out to the Routt County Sheriff’s Office.

DON’T USE A GUN TO HAZE BEARS AWAY
