The bathhouse building at the Routt County Fairgrounds in Hayden is closed. The bathhouse has men’s and women’s showers and toilets.
Vandals have been breaking in the maintenance room and altering the showers to receive a free shower and then prying open the coin holders to steal the money. They crawl through the small square door to get in to the maintenance room. The last break-in was between 7:30 p.m. Wednesday night, and Thursday morning.
Routt County Fair Manager Noel Neal says fair staff has found needles, pipes, foil, and powder substances on the surfaces of the bathhouse.
The barns have been broken into as well, but fair staff hasn’t noticed anything missing right now.
Neal says Hayden Police and the Routt County Sheriff’s Officers have been notified and they are increasing patrols of the fairgrounds.
Noel Neal says they would appreciate help from the community to report any suspicious behavior at the bathhouse or the fairgrounds. She also says they are working on updating the security system with more cameras.
The bathhouse at the Routt County Fairgrounds was built in 2014.
