A routine traffic stop last week by Steamboat Springs Police turned into a substantial drug arrest. Steamboat Springs Police stopped a vehicle for speeding. The K-9 with the Routt County Sheriff’s Office helped to locate more than 500 fentanyl pills, cocaine, a gun and ammunition. The driver was arrested on suspicion on possession with intent to distribute along with other felony charges.

“This is a significant amount of narcotics that will not be making its way into Steamboat Springs or a neighboring community,” said Police Chief Mark Beckett. “We’re seeing an increasing rate of drug trafficking across the region and SSPD officers are trained to look deeper if something doesn’t add up as was the case in this instance.”

All persons accused of crimes are presumed innocent until and unless their guilt is established beyond a reasonable doubt in court.

In a post office update… We have learned of a District Manager in Pennsylvania who has decided all residents in the town get free P.O. Boxes if they have no other way to get their mail, AND, they get 24 months of a refund. We’ve asked the corporate office in Denver why that isn’t happening here. Spokesperson James Boxrud says he’ll pass the information along to the District Manager for Colorado and Wyoming and see when it can happen in Steamboat Springs. We’ll keep you posted on that one.
