The Colorado Cattlemen’s Association is meeting for their 156th Annual Convention. It’s in Steamboat Springs this week. CCA President Philip Anderson from Walden says they’re working on policy, looking at the past, and setting goals for the future.

“Well I think we have to look at how we’re working with the government and how they’re working with us. Definitely. We have to look at how recreation is affecting agriculture and how agriculture is affecting recreation. And also, Colorado water is very important, everywhere in this state.”

On Monday, Mark and Robbie LeValley of Hotchkiss were recognized with the Leopold Conservation Award from the Sand County Foundation as agriculture landowners actively committed to a land ethic.

Tuesday is the 6th Annual Ranching Legacy Symposium featuring two sessions. In the morning, it’s “State of the Industry: Critical Updates on Critical Issues” presentations and then three breakout sessions in the afternoon focused on federal lands, sustainability and grazing, and wolf introduction. Later that evening, it’s the “Mountain Meat-Up” reception and banquet, at the Mt. Werner Lodge at the top of Steamboat Resort with food, award presentations, and the chance to connect as an industry. Wednesday will wrap up with CCA’s Beef and Business Breakfast.
