Steamboat Springs City Council members and staff start the groundbreaking of the new building.
The official groundbreaking ceremony for the new Steamboat Springs City Hall and Downtown Fire Station was Tuesday. Steamboat Springs City Council President Robin Crossan welcomed everyone and spoke about the new building, which is replacing a 60-year-old building.
Fire Chief Chuck Cerasoli also spoke about the need for a new fire station, and how it is something they have been working on for ten years.
“To be able to grow with the community, add a new fire station, protect our firefighters, and serve the community better… It’s amazing and long overdue.”
Karl Gills is the board president for the Steamboat Springs Area Fire Protection District. He also spoke and district members joined in the groundbreaking.
The new building on 10th Street, between Oak and Lincoln, is expected to be finished in fall of 2024.
The 10th Street parking lot is now permanently closed.
