Oak Creek Fire Rescue is helping out with another Colorado fire. Two crews and engines left Thursday to help with the Arkansas Loop Fire in Southern Colorado near Durango. A crew was also sent to the Spring Creek Fire near Parachute.
The 4th of July holiday means extra cars and people in Northwest Colorado. A four-vehicle chain reaction accident on Hwy 40 near Walton Creek Road had no injuries but two vehicles were towed last night.
Right at Casey’s Pond, a car was parked on the closed sidewalk so the owner could get some fishing in. He said he thought the sidewalk was a road. Not all visitors know the difference between the Core Trail and the streets. Post on Facebook

Remember, before tubing the Yampa this weekend, really make sure you’re safe and prepared. The water is between 50 and 60 degrees and it is still moving fast so absolutely wear a life jacket. Check out the Friends of the Yampa video on their Facebook page for some good safety tips before you hit the river for the holiday weekend. And please help keep the Yampa clean.
You can help clean up the Yampa River in Craig tonight. Good Vibes River Gear is organizing a clean-up at 6 p.m. Meet at Pebble Beach behind the golf course in Craig.
If you are headed north of Craig on Highway 13, plan on some delays. Colorado Department of Transportation is doing a chip seal project from Mile Point 104 to the Colorado/Wyoming state line. The new surface provides some skid resistance. Edge rumble strips are also being put in. The project will last through September.
Fireworks are going off at sunset Saturday night, up at Steamboat Lake State Park in North Routt County. Captain Karl Bunker from Steamboat Lake Marina says the fireworks will be shot off from an island in the middle of the lake.
“You get to see the fireworks and the reflection from the water, hear the echo of the mountains all around. There are no other lights in the area so you really get the full experience of being out in the state park. Really dark. Really brilliant fireworks. It’s always been spectacular.”
Fireworks start at sunset, around 9 p.m. No personal fireworks are allowed. If you drive up to the state park, you’ll need a vehicle pass.

The Howelsen Ice Pavilion, or HIP, expansion project is underway to add an extra sheet of ice at Howelsen Ice Arena. Kerry Shea is chair of the HIP fundraising project.
“The Howelsen Ice Pavilion is going to be such a great thing for Steamboat because it’s going to be able to help everyone in the community, all year round. Not just our winter sports and our youth in the wintertime, but full, year-round access, after-school action. Really everyone that’s local to Steamboat and visiting.”
The extra sheet of ice will support the youth and adult hockey programs, figure skating, curling, public skate and everything at the rink. The group has pledged $40,000 to kick off the fundraising campaign. The plan is to raise $6M by January 31, 2024.
