Fourth of July festivities include…

Today in Yampa, there is a BBQ at Yackey Park along with the Classic Car Show at Montgomery’s. That’s at 5 p.m. The Street Dance with the band Constant Change is tonight at 8 p.m. in Yampa.

The Steamboat Springs 4th of July Parade, sponsored by Yampa Valley Bank, is at 10 a.m. Tuesday morning, on Lincoln Ave., through downtown Steamboat Springs. Detours are set up between 6:30 a.m. to around 2 p.m.

The Ski Town Lions Club is hosting a Pancake Breakfast in Little Toots Park on the morning of July 4.

The 4th of July Hot Dog Extravaganza at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church at 9th and Oak, is right after the parade, as is the Jumpin’ and Jammin’ Competition with the country’s best ski jumpers at Howelsen Hill.

Craig has the VFW Parade at 11 a.m. followed by the car show.

Smokey the Bear waves to the crowd in the 4th of July Parade in Yampa.

The town of Yampa’s parade is at 1 p.m.

Both Yampa and Craig have fireworks Tuesday night, when it gets dark, weather permitting.

As a reminder, any fireworks that explode or leave the ground are illegal in Colorado. In Steamboat Springs, it’s a petty offense that is punishable by up to $300 and/or up to ten days in jail. Last year in Colorado, an estimated 11,500 people were injured due to fireworks or sparklers and fireworks started an average of 18,500 fires. Steamboat Springs Police will be enforcing the use of illegal fireworks in the city.

DON’T USE ILLEGAL FIREWORKS

Fireworks can be stressful to pets. Keep them inside where they are safe and comfortable. Put them in a place where they can’t damage anything if they’re scared. If your pet panics and escapes, make sure they can be identified with a tag or microchip.

FIREWORKS CAN CASE PETS TO PANIC

Remember to be aware of wildlife on our roads. Another moose was hit and killed by an SUV on Rabbit Ears Pass Friday, heading into the weekend. No one in the vehicle was injured.

Moffat County offices are closed July 3rd and 4th in honor of the 4th of July holiday. Routt County offices are open for regular hours today and closed on the 4th of July. Both county courthouses are closed on the 4th.

A Colorado team attended last week’s 4-H National Shooting Sports Championships in Nebraska. There were 724 competitors from 42 states. Colorado’s .22 Small Bore Pistol Team placed third overall for the week. Team members included Teagan Herold from Routt County and Forrest Siminoe from Moffat County. Other athletes competing from Moffat County were Tate Kerchal and Brook Wheeler.
