Yampa Valley Housing Authority has received a $4M grant to help build local workforce housing. It’s from the Division of Housing with the Colorado Department of Local Affairs. The Mid Valley Housing project us behind Steamboat Urgent Care, near Walgreens. Of the 234 total units, 84 will be condos for sale. The other 150 units will be apartments for rent. All units will be deed restricted for members of the Routt County workforce. The project will include two neighborhood parks, open space, and trails connecting to the Yampa River Core Trail. Construction is expected to begin next summer.
Over 50 bipartisan legislators, business and community leaders are in Northwest Colorado today. Many are from the Front Range. They started in Grand Junction then drove to Steamboat Springs last night. It’s through the Colorado Competitive Council, and led locally by State Rep. Rick Taggart of Grand Junction and State Rep. Meghan Lukens of Steamboat Springs.
One of those on the tour of Northwest Colorado is Perry Will, the former Representative for Moffat and Rio Blanco counties, who is now a state senator out of New Castle.
“So you get to highlight some of the things in your district whether it’s ag, industry, whatever it is. It’s a chance for Representatives and Senators to show off their districts to these lobbyists and they get to see rural Colorado because most of them don’t understand it. So this is an awesome opportunity.”
The group is riding the gondola and touring Steamboat Ski Resort, and learning more about the Yampa Valley Watershed today. If you see a real big tour bus, that’s them.
Steamboat Springs City Council meets Tuesday night. Agenda items include staff reports, and a progress report from the Brown Ranch Annexation Committee. Also on the agenda is first reading of an ordinance that would go to the voters, that would increase the salary of Steamboat Springs City Council members. They currently receive $11,900 annual, with President Pro Tem receiving $13,800, and Council President approximately $15,800 each year. The new salary increase would be to $25,000 a year for Steamboat Springs City Council members, $27,500 for the City Council President Pro Tem, and $30,000 for the Council President. The salary increase is being discussed tonight. Four seats are up open in November. They are for Districts 1, 2, and 3, and the at-large council spot.
This afternoon, there is a combined meeting for Craig City and Moffat County Budget Planning. That’s at 4 p.m. Then at 6:30 p.m., Craig City Council meets. One agenda item includes an award of bid from Eaton Sales and Service for $65,774 for a fuel system upgrade for the Road and Bridge Department.
