
Moffat County United Way and Routt County United Way are merging to be United Way of the Yampa Valley. The organization will serve Northwest Colorado, including supporting Rio Blanco County. There will be a fall campaign to raise money for the new United Way of the Yampa Valley. The merger of the two groups goes into effect Sept. 1.

United Way of the Yampa Valley will serve Northwest Colorado
Steamboat Springs, CO 7/2023 – Moffat County United Way and Routt County United Way Boards of Directors are excited to announce their plans to merge the two organizations into one, effective September 1, 2023. After careful consideration and collaboration between board representatives from both entities, it was determined that joining forces would provide the best support and services for the communities of Routt, Moffat, and Rio Blanco counties. The newly formed organization will be known as the United Way of the Yampa Valley. This merger marks a significant milestone in the commitment to closing gaps and opening opportunities within the Yampa Valley region.
By combining resources, expertise, and networks, United Way of the Yampa Valley aims to foster positive change and create lasting solutions for the community. United Way of the Yampa Valley will continue to uphold the mission shared by both organizations: to advance the common good in the Yampa Valley by improving education, strengthening financial stability, and promoting community well-being. “The merger presents numerous opportunities to expand support and services, enabling the organization to make an even greater impact,” commented Kate Nowak, Executive Director. In a joint effort, the organizations will begin working together immediately in joint committee work. Shelli Steele, Moffat County United Way Board Chair commented “Already, our combined staff and board members are having meaningful conversations and planning sessions to make this merger successful, which will result in improving the lives of individuals and families in NW Colorado and better supporting the local agencies doing remarkable work in our communities.”
Furthermore, they will launch the fall campaign as a unified entity to raise funds for the communities. By working together, United Way of the Yampa Valley will be better equipped to address the evolving needs of the region and maximize the positive outcomes of their collective efforts. Kate Nowak, the current Director of Routt County United Way, will assume the role of Director and Chief Operating Officer (COO) of the merged organization. Most existing staff members will retain their positions, with new opportunities available within the expanded organization. Individuals who are passionate about making a difference in the Yampa Valley community are encouraged to apply for the open positions. This period of growth and opportunity in the Yampa Valley promises an exciting future for those involved.
