U.S. Senators John Hickenlooper and Michael Bennet are announcing $38 million in improvements for Colorado Airports.
This includes $5,836,775 to the regional airport serving Craig and Moffat County. The improvements include navigation, reconstructing the taxiway, improving drainage and erosion control, and reconstructing the runway lighting and expanding the runway apron.
Yampa Valley Regional Airport in Hayden is also receiving $585,000. Airport Manager Kevin Booth says it is to purchase two replacement snow plow trucks and a liquid de-ice applicator. A separate grant award is expected in the next couple of weeks that will pay to reconstruct the taxiway lighting, and rehabilitate the taxiway.
Right now, a paved employee parking lot is being built at the airport in Hayden, as is a rental car storage lot. It will move the employees out of the west end of the paid parking lot and add 172 new parking stalls for passenger parking. That is expected to be finished in mid-October.

Hickenlooper, Bennet Welcome $38 Million for Colorado Airport Improvements
Projects will help airports in Grand Junction, Craig, and across the state upgrade critical infrastructure, streamline operations, and improve safety for passengers
WASHINGTON – Today, U.S. Senators John Hickenlooper and Michael Bennet celebrated an additional $38 million for infrastructure improvements at Colorado airports through the Federal Aviation Administration’s (FAA) Airport Improvement Program (AIP).
“Our airports are the gateway to communities across Colorado. These improvements will keep our rural communities connected,” said Hickenlooper.
“Colorado’s regional and municipal airports help connect communities and fuel local economies. I welcome this funding that will support much-needed upgrades to improve safety and expand capacity at airports around the state,” said Bennet.
In 2023 alone, the FAA’s AIP has awarded over $87 million to airports across Colorado to improve runways, taxiways, and airport signage, lighting, marking, and facilities.
