Water Department Replaces Failing Water Main Along Saratoga Avenue
STEAMBOAT SPRINGS, COLORADO-July 21, 2023-The city’s utility team will be replacing the failing water main lines along Saratoga Avenue in the Fairview neighborhood starting Monday, July 24, 2023. The project is anticipated to take six weeks to complete without weather or other unforeseen delays.
Duckels Construction was awarded the more than $1M project, which will replace 8-inch ductile iron pipe, fire hydrants and appurtenances with eight PVC water mains along Saratoga Avenue between Mesa Lane and the Routt/Saratoga/Fairview Drive intersection.
Polyvinyl chloride (PVC) is a common and versatile thermoplastic especially known as a piping and fitting material used for residential and commercial plumbing applications.
During the six-week installation project, Saratoga Ave will be closed in sections to all traffic during work hours. Construction activity is restricted to 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday. Materials storage will be in the open space at the intersection of Saratoga and Routt Street.
Once all water mains are installed and all water services are connected to the new water main, the impacted area of Saratoga Avenue will receive a fresh two-inch mat of asphalt.
Access to Blackmer Trailhead off Fairview Drive and the Emerald Mountain system will not be hindered.
