A 34-year-old woman from Steamboat Springs died in a two-vehicle, head-on collision Sunday, just west of town, near Mile Post 126. Routt County Coroner Mitch Locke has confirmed that Emily Tintrup Dealy died in the accident. Colorado State Patrol says she was a passenger in a truck that was hit by a 65-year-old man from Littleton, who caused the accident. Both drivers were taken to the hospital. Colorado State Patrol said the Vehicular Crime Unit was called in to investigate the crash, which closed the highway in both directions for most of the afternoon Sunday. Our deepest condolences to the family.
Colorado State Patrol also says to not “Act Ugly” behind the wheel. Aggressive driving is the top reason for lane violation crashes, which are usually caused by human factors like aggressive driving, driver inexperience, daydreaming, distracted driving, or the driver being tired or falling asleep. CSP says to always avoid an aggressive driver and just get out of the way.

U.S. Senators John Hickenlooper and Michael Bennet are announcing $38 million in improvements for Colorado Airports. This includes $5,836,775 to the regional airport serving Craig and Moffat County. The improvements include navigation, reconstructing the taxiway, improving drainage and erosion control, and reconstructing the runway lighting and expanding the runway apron.
Yampa Valley Regional Airport in Hayden is also receiving $585,000. Airport Manager Kevin Booth says it is to purchase two replacement snow plow trucks and a liquid de-ice applicator. A separate grant award is expected in the next couple of weeks that will pay to reconstruct the taxiway lighting, and rehabilitate the taxiway.

Right now, a paved employee parking lot is being built at the airport in Hayden, as is a rental car storage lot. It will move the employees out of the west end of the paid parking lot and add 172 new parking stalls for passenger parking. That is expected to be finished in mid-October.

Yampa Valley Electric wants to let people know about some door-to-door sales that they are NOT associated with, that are happening in Steamboat Springs and possibly the surrounding areas. It is from a company selling solar. One of the pieces of information they are showing people has a screenshot from the Yampa Valley Electric website showing the recent press release of the partnership with Guzman. YVEA says they are not associated with these door-to-door salespeople or their installers, and neither is Guzman. A co-owner of Go Brite Solar told Steamboat Radio News that his sales people have the press release to show that energy rates are being increased, and that his sales representatives are instructed to make it very clear that they do not work with local power suppliers.
YVEA knows this is happening because the salespeople stopped at the home of the YVEA Public Relations Specialist Thursday night. https://gobritesolar.com/
“YVEA highly recommends that members be diligent with any person or company they engage with when it comes to solar installations. For more information on solar, including installers who have gone through YVEA’s qualified solar installer program, please visit https://www.yvea.com/member-solar”
