UPDATE: The two people who died in the semi-truck crash on Rabbit Ears Pass Wednesday have been identified by Routt County Coroner Mitch Locke. 51-year-old Bernardo Rodriguez Aldaba and 40-year-old April Elizabeth Baca were both from Rocky Ford, Colo.
Two people died in a semi-truck in a single-vehicle crash on Rabbit Ears Pass Wednesday afternoon. Highway 40 was closed, with alternating traffic for much of the afternoon and into the evening. The Routt County Coroner is trying to reach family members so they have not yet been identified. The man is 51 years old and the woman is 40 years old, both from Rocky Ford. Colorado State Patrol says alcohol and drugs are not suspected but excessive speed is. The International semi truck was traveling with a trailer. CSP does not know if seatbelts were being used. In the narrative from CSP, they say the semi was traveling westbound on Hwy 40 and came around a corner and lost control and rotated clockwise into the eastbound lane and rolled 1/4 times onto the drivers side. The truck slid off the south side of the eastbound lane and jack-knifed, before coming to a final stop on the drivers side.

A funnel cloud was spotted in Yampa Wednesday afternoon. It wasn’t up for long and it didn’t touch down. Oak Creek Fire Rescue also spotted it when they were putting out a fire on a tree up on the mountain that got struck with lightning.

The regional corporate office for the U.S. Postal Service out of Denver has sent an update on the 7,062 Steamboat Springs post office box owners who are paying for a P.O. Box but have no other way to get their mail. Here is spokesperson James Boxrud.
“We currently have subject matter experts on contract delivery services evaluating addresses that are eligible for delivery. When that process is completed, we will have our address database updated and those that don’t qualify for delivery will be considered for Group E boxes.”
The USPS website says, “Group E P.O. Box service is provided free, with restrictions, to customers whose physical addresses are not eligible for any form of USPS carrier delivery service. This service is consistent with the USPS responsibility to provide universal mail delivery.”
We’ll let you know when you don’t have to pay for your post office box anymore.

“I know that some people are asking, ‘What is he going to change about the club, with such a strong tradition?’ What’s cool is that one thing that won’t change is our dedication to our mission, participation, performance, and all the support that this community gives us.”
Krill says he’ll look to be more sustainable and sufficient so that the Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club can continue to be successful for another 100 years.
