This year’s Grand Champion Market Steer at the Moffat County Fair is named Bugs, owned by Michael Voloshin.
Bugs is a Maine Andrew Cross Charolais and he’s got a very unique color. He’s dark and light. It’s great to be back.”
Bugs is a light grayish brown steer. Voloshin also won Grand Champion Reserve with Nubs. Voloshin is a 2023 graduate of Moffat County High School. He plans to go to college at the Univ. of Wyoming, starting in January.

The Grand Champion Goat at the Moffat County Fair is named Peaches, owned by Max Espino. Peaches is a Nigerian Dwarf Miniature breed of goat.
“I didn’t expect to win Grand Champion my first year. I’m really excited.”
Max will be in 8th grade. It is his first time entering the fair.
His brother, Ben, is also showing his duck named Daisy in the fair.
PEACHES WINS GRAND CHAMPION GOAT AT MOFFAT COUNTY FAIR
Tonight is the Big Air Bash Freestyle Motorsports Show. It’s at 6 p.m. at the Moffat County Fairgrounds. It’s $20 for adults and $10 for kids ages five to 16. A family pack for five is $50. Tickets are at the Moffat County Extension Office or at the gate. Cash or check only.
Saturday has fun all day with things like the Lawnmower Pull, Cowboy Baby Contest, and Pie Eating Contest, Derby Day Dog Races, and then the 4-H and FFA Junior Livestock Sale Saturday night. It’s all at the Moffat County Fairgrounds.
At the Routt County Fair, the Open Horse Show is today and tomorrow at the Routt County Fairgrounds in Hayden.
The ATV/UTV Rodeo is at 6 p.m. Saturday night in the outdoor arena. There is a Flag Race, Barrel Race, and Pole Race.
Then the Ranch Rodeo is at 1 p.m. Sunday which is followed by Ranch Sorting, and a Corn Hole Tournament at 4 p.m.
Kids loved Touch-A-Truck, hosted by the City of Steamboat Springs in the rodeo grounds parking lot Thursday. Paul Franklin brought his 2 ½-year-old grandson, Joe.
“He got so excited he started to cry. Didn’t you, Joe? Yeah.”
That’s because there were fire trucks, emergency vehicles, police cars, city buses, the animal control vehicle, the Classic Air Medical Helicopter, Routt County Search and Rescue vehicles, big lawnmowers, and even the Zamboni. Kids could climb right in and see it for themselves. Megan Troiani is the Youth and Teen Supervisor for the city.
“I think all the kids had an amazing time. Big smiles on all their faces, and they all got to sit in a vehicle that they’ve never been in before.”
Touch-A-Truck today was such a success that the city hopes to do it again. As if it could get any better, someone brought a puppy.
TOUCH-A-TRUCK DELIGHTS KIDS IN STEAMBOAT SPRINGS
Football & Fire is back to light up the field at Soroco High School. It’s tonight. This is a fundraiser for the Rams football program in Oak Creek where the team plays members of the Yampa Fire Department. The fun starts at 6 p.m. with the Youth Flag Football kids and runs until 8:30 p.m. There is also food for purchase. All are invited to Football & Fire.
The U.S. Postal Service is hosting a job fair, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, at the Steamboat Springs Post Office at 200 Lincoln Ave. Hiring personnel will be there to answer questions. Long-term benefits are available. www.usps.com/careers.
The Colorado Mountain College Sky Club is having a Star Party, weather permitting. It’s from 8:30-10 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 12 at the Steamboat Lake State Park Marina. Everyone is invited. You’ll get to see the sky through CMC’s telescopes and learn about the universe.

The Little Snake River Museum in Savery, Wyoming, is hosting an old-fashioned Barn Dance at 7:30 p.m. Saturday night. There will be drinks, dancing and food. It’s free, but donations are appreciated. It’s brought to you by the Carbon County School District One Recreation Board.
Saturday’s movie for Coca-Cola’s Movies on the Mountain is The Goonies. It starts at dusk at 8:20 p.m. Saturday night at the base of Steamboat Ski Resort. Bring chairs and a blanket. This is the last one of the season.The movie is free and I will see you there.
