The east half of the Moffat County Courthouse Parking Lot is being paved this weekend. All county vehicles need to be moved to Industrial Avenue by the end of the day today. On Monday, more parking lot paving will be done. Parking for the public and employees will be in the east lot on Monday. Striping starts next Tuesday, after working hours.
The SBT GRVL ride is Sunday in Steamboat Springs. Over 3,000 riders from every state and 24 countries are competing in four different distances, on gravel roads across Routt County. Amy Charity is the co-founder and owner of the Steamboat Gravel Ride.
“This is the gravel cycling event that everyone wants to do. In fact, we have to cap it and we can’t fill demand for it. So it has really put Steamboat on the map as a gravel cycling destination and people are coming worldwide to experience what our Routt County roads are like.”
Friday night there is a 2.2 mile Hill Climb at Howelsen Hill with 1000+ feet of vertical on dirt, and costumes are encouraged. So are spectators. That starts at 5:30 p.m.
An Expo is on Yampa Street just down from the Farmers Market all day Saturday.
Then on Sunday, racers start lining up at 6 a.m. Four different courses start every half hour, beginning at 6:30 a.m.

This year’s Grand Champion Market Steer winner is Kimberly Gray. Her steer’s name is Yellow, but she says he is actually a golden color.
“This is actually my first time winning the steers. This is my third of showing steers so this is great.”
Gray will be a sophomore at Hayden High School.
Grand Champion Reserve goes to J.D. Case.
Both Grand Champion steers will be up for auction at the Junior Livestock Auction this Saturday night. It starts at 4:30 p.m. at the Routt County Fairgrounds in Hayden.

Winning Best in Show at the Rabbit Show was Taylor Clyncke. She won with her Red New Zealand breed.
“I’m actually really happy. You should have seen my family’s faces. We all went wild and our mouths just dropped.”
Taylor is 12. She is going into 7th grade at Soroco Middle School. She isn’t sure how many rabbits she has, but she thinks she has 15. Taylor is also in the Routt County Fair Royalty, as an attendant.

Friday is the Goat Show, Sheep Show, and the Demolition Derby.
The Demolition Derby is tonight at the Routt County Fair in Hayden. It is sold out.
Saturday night is the Junior Livestock Sale at the fairgrounds. The free BBQ is from 3-5 p.m. and we’ll be there serving Coke Floats so stop by and say hi. If you are planning to buy an animal at the Junior Livestock auction, get there by 4 p.m. to get your number. The auction starts at 4:30 p.m.

That’s also when one of four people have to Kiss the Pig. Whoever has the most money donated in their name has to do it. That would be CSU Extension Agent Todd Hagenbuch, Routt County Sheriff Doug Scherar, Real Estate agent Jon Wade, and Steamboat Radio News Director Shannon Lukens. Wild Bunch Day at the Old Brown’s Park School in Moffat County is Saturday, Aug. 19. It starts at 10 a.m. until the “cows come home.” Award-winning author and historian Diana Allen Kouris will be there signing her books about Ann Bassett and Brown’s Park. There’s food, raffles, a bake sale, music and more. All proceeds go to the restoration and maintenance of the old school house, which is at 14305 Highway 318.
The South Routt Library Program presents A Walking Flower Garden Tour with Local Gardeners. Meet at the library in Yampa at 1 p.m. this Sunday, Aug. 20.
