Steamboat Springs City Council meets Tuesday afternoon to discuss ballot language for the Brown Ranch annexation agreement. City Council will also discuss a $50 million dollar deal with Steamboat Resort. It would be to reconstruct the Gondola Transit Center, and build a new gondola out of the Meadows Parking Lot. Craig City Council also has openings for mayor and four council member seats. If you are interested in running, pick up a Candidate Nomination Petition Packet upstairs at City Hall on 4th Street in Craig. Eight packets have been picked up so far. Moffat County Board of County Commissioners also meets today.
Four City Council seats are open in Steamboat Springs. Petitions are due back to the City Clerk by Aug. 28.
Steamboat Springs School District Board of Education has three seats available for the election in November. Only two packets have been picked up from the school district office from people who are interested in running. The deadline to submit a nominating petition is at noon on Friday, Sept. 1. The Moffat County School District has four out of seven seats on the board available. Nomination petitions are available at the district administration offices at 600 Texas Ave. in Craig. Meghan Lukens has announced that she is running for re-election for House District 26 in the Colorado House of Representatives. Lukens is a Steamboat Springs resident. HD26 includes Routt, Moffat, Rio Blanco, and most of Eagle counties.
The Deserado fire just north of Rangely in Rio Blanco County is 100% contained. Firefighters from Oak Creek Fire Rescue helped out with that one.
Oak Creek has now sent an engine to Northern California for the Lightning Complex Fire in Six Rivers National Forest.
Routt County Road 33 is closed Tuesday and Wednesday for a cattle guard to be replaced, and for repaving. This is from Mile Marker 5, just south of the intersection of 33 and 179.Detour options are either CR 27 south/ east to CR 29 and back to CR 33 or US 40 to CR 179 back to CR 33.
Carmen Anarella from Soroco High School will be representing Colorado in this year’s National FFA Choir. The 9th annual FFA Convention and Expo is in early November, in Indianapolis.
