Colorado Governor Jared Polis visited Routt County Wednesday. He first spoke at the Colorado Water Congress about ongoing work to preserve and protect Colorado’s water resources.
Governor Polis then headed over to visit Heritage Park Preschool and Steamboat Montessori to celebrate the launch of Colorado’s free universal preschool on the first day of school.
“For the first time in Colorado’s history, every 4-year-old can go to pre-school. As a result, 43% more kids are in pre-school, so those are all families that would have wanted it before and couldn’t afford it. And for those who could, they’re saving about $500 a month which is a big deal considering the cost of living. So it’s really exciting to see how it is being implemented successfully here in Routt County.”

Governor Polis then headed north to Steamboat Lake State Park to meet with the Colorado Parks and Wildlife leadership team and CPW commissioners.
The governor and commission members went for a boat tour on the lake provided by Captain Karl Bunker and his team at Steamboat Lake Marina.
