Routt County and Northwest Colorado now has a new American Sign Language interpreter, based in the community. Jillian Chamberlain was signing the Town Hall meeting with Senator Hickenlooper at CMC recently. She was hired in June as a full-time staff member for Steamboat STARS, which is Steamboat Adaptive Recreational Sports. She will serve STARS, but also be available for Steamboat Ski Resort, Routt County, the school district and any other groups that may need her ASL interpreting services.
Kyle Rosenberg is the Camps and Custom Groups Manager for STARS. He says there is a sizable disabled population in northwest Colorado that can benefit from having an ASL interpreter at meetings and events. He advocated “like nobody’s business,” he says, for Jillian to be hired because he says it is difficult to find interpreters here.
Chamberlain was previously an educational interpreter in Aurora, Colo., for the public school system there.
She is currently working on summer programs with deaf participants at STARS. She is available for hire for events through STARS as an interpreter.
