Swastikas have been carved into and spray painted on a picnic table on the edge of Memorial Park in Steamboat Springs. It’s an area called Kaster’s Cove along the creek, on the edge of the park, down from the high school.
The table is a new one this summer, put there by the Steamboat Springs Parks and Recreation Department. Matt Barnard with Parks and Rec says the maintenance staff will either resurface the table, or replace the damaged boards which have been removed. Barnard says, “We don’t need to have that out there in our community.”
Steamboat Springs Police has been made aware of the swastikas and vandalism and they are investigating it. Steamboat Springs School District is also aware of the vandalism.

Infectious disease experts at UCHealth have sent word of multiple viruses this fall and winter. They expect the flu, COVID-19, and RSV to be circulating at the same time. Flu season is expected to start in October and peak in November, so flu shots are recommended. A new COVID-19 vaccine for a new strain is expected to be available by the end of September. A new vaccine is also expected to be available for older adults and those who are immunocompromised for RSV.

The Attorney General found that the Aurora-based company illegally collected or attempted to collect on fines for parking that was already paid for or someone entered a wrong plate number, or they left before the 15-minute grace period. The company has to pay back $31,000 in fines, and pay $75,000 to the attorney general’s office for restitution.

Colorado Parks and Wildlife officers are still monitoring that doe that has been spotted with a tomato cage on her. It is now wrapped around her body but it looks like it is breaking up. This is in the Whitecotton neighborhood of Routt County. CPW officers says she isn’t showing any signs of distress and she is eating and moving fine. They’ll keep an eye on her to see if they need to intervene and help. (Courtesy photos)
