31-year-old Taylor Branstetter died Saturday evening, in a one-vehicle accident on Highway 40, just west of Hayden. Colorado State Patrol says his car drifted off the side of the highway and collided with multiple trees. County Coroner Mitch Locke confirms Branstetter lived in Craig but his family is from Hayden.

The Routt County K9 Deputy Winston helped Hayden Police with a vehicle stop in Hayden over the weekend which resulted in an arrest and confiscation of 154 fentanyl pills, 129 Xanax pills, 0.5 grams of cocaine, 1.8 grams of methamphetamines, scales, paraphernalia and burglary tools. The investigation is still open.

Someone vandalized a structure in the Children’s Garden at Yampa River Botanic Park, with racial slurs and graphic drawings. The vandalism has been removed. We won’t be showing close-ups of the pictures because they are too graphic and rude. Steamboat Police are investigating.

The 100-year-old time capsule built into the corner of the historic Routt County Courthouse was opened Saturday. It was full of documents and papers from 100 years ago. They included the Steamboat Pilot, the Oak Creek Times, the Routt County Republican, The Routt County Sentinal, the Denver Post, the American Legion Weekly, and the Rocky Mountain News. And there was a high school yearbook.

“We think that the power generation of course are going to benefit the regional partners that initiated the project, which is Moffat County, Routt County, Craig, Steamboat Springs, Hayden and Yampa. They will receive continual benefits from this field for the next 20 years, possibly a few years beyond that.”

“We could not haul hay. One day they told me I couldn’t go up the road to where I live and I went anyway. And you couldn’t get out on the road. And the bikers were going seven abreast and when you met them they wouldn’t get over. And it was just a whole day of bikes. And they scared our horses and our cows. And there was just too many of them.”

Belton has lived in Routt County for 80 years. He spoke at a listening session which many Routt County ranchers attended to talk about how the race interferes with their access to their ranches and ag production, and how rude the cyclists were.

Co-founder Amy Charity was at the meeting.

“There were some good discussion points on areas that we can certainly improve. Every year, we listen and we learn and we make improvements after hearing feedback, and this year is no different that the feedback that we did receive, we think that many of the points are very actionable on something that we can make improvements and make this a better experience for everybody.”

3,100 cyclists competed in the SBT GRVL all over Routt County. Charity says there will be two more listening sessions, in Oak Creek, and Clark.
