The Class of 2026 and 2027 at Steamboat Springs High School are the two biggest classes ever at the high school and the largest classes in the district.

The sophomore class at Steamboat Springs High School has 231 students and the Freshman class has 224. Principal Jay Hamric knew it was a big freshman class so they held a pep rally to make sure the freshmen felt comfortable and knew they were being celebrated.

“We had an amazing pep rally, on the very first day of school and welcomed this large class and to give them a warm, big, loud greeting where the entire student body, 10th grade through 12th grade, stood on their feet and give them a big ovation.”

Hamric says one of the only adjustments of the large class sizes was that they had to bring some extra desks out of storage. He also says the large class sizes have resulted in larger sports teams and more participation in band, choir, and theater.
