A rusty crayfish has been discovered in Lake Granby, south of Grand Lake, in neighboring Grand County. Colorado Parks and Wildlife says it is the first time a rusty crayfish has been found in the Upper Colorado River Basin. It is an invasive species, actually first discovered back in 2009 in the Yampa River and at Catamount Reservoir. They are believed to have been illegally introduced as bait, by people fishing.
CPW says to only use legal bait in Colorado. Don’t throw any bait back in the water, if it is alive. Clean, drain, and dry your gear and water craft before going to another body of water. Don’t ever dispose of pets or unwanted aquarium plants or animals in natural systems.

The sophomore class at Steamboat Springs High School has 231 students and the Freshman class has 224. Principal Jay Hamric knew it was a big freshman class so they held a pep rally to make sure the freshmen felt comfortable and knew they were being celebrated.
“We had an amazing pep rally, on the very first day of school and welcomed this large class and to give them a warm, big, loud greeting where the entire student body, 10th grade through 12th grade, stood on their feet and give them a big ovation.”
Hamric says one of the only adjustments of the large class sizes was that they had to bring some extra desks out of storage. He also says the large class sizes have resulted in larger sports teams and more participation in band, choir, and theater.
