The Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment is recommending three vaccines this fall. One is the COVID vaccine, which has been reformulated, and is now available. Then there is the flu vaccine, and there is the RSV vaccine for those 60 and older. Here is Routt County Public Health Director Roberta Smith.

“All of these vaccines will protect you from respiratory infections this fall, and most of all, they prevent against severe symptoms, and possibly death due to these respiratory viruses.”

The vaccine is available at most local pharmacies, but check first as some are reporting that they have temporarily run out. Also check to see if you need an appointment, or if they’ll take walk-ins. Routt County Public Health says they are seeing an increase in COVID cases in Colorado and in the country.

The CDPHE is also encouraging everyone six months and older to get their annual flu vaccine before the end of October.

It is also recommended to ask your provider about the RSV vaccine, if you are 60 and older. Data from the CDPHE says one dose is 83% effective in preventing a severe lung infection due to RSV in older adults.

You can get the COVID, flu, and RSV vaccines at the same time.

Recommendations from Routt County Public Health:

  • Make sure you are up to date on your COVID-19 vaccines, the new COVID-19 vaccine is starting to arrive at pharmacies and your physician’s office.
  • If you are sick, stay home from work, school, and events with others.
  • Wash your hands often.
  • If you have tested positive for COVID-19 you should isolate from others. Stay home for at least five days and wear a mask if you must be around others. More information on isolation recommendations can be found on the CDC website.
  • Wear a mask until day 11 if you are recovering from COVID-19.

A small grass fire along Hwy 40 and 131 Monday morning, caused a lot of smoke. Yampa Valley Electric de-energized the lines so fire crews could operate safely and get the fire out. About 1,400 Yampa Valley Electric members were without power for about five and a half hours. The cause is under investigation.
