The 14th Judicial District and the new Moffat County Courthouse was officially dedicated Friday in Craig. This is the courthouse side of the building, which was renovated from an old box store that had closed. Here is Chief District Judge Michael O’Hara, who spoke at the ceremony.
“Finally I want to thank the citizens of Moffat County because this is your building. We’re housed in here right now for right now with all of the county offices down the hallway, which was another brilliant move, to centralize all of those offices into one place. The support from, I know the commissioners tried to have several meetings where they invited comments and I don’t think they received any negative comments, at least not in the public meetings about doing this. And I think there was a recognition that it just needed to be done. And I’m grateful for that.”
Judge O’Hara said the courthouse building is an example of what communities should do, by repurposing old buildings.
“I am happy that this will be a building that lasts for the ages, and it will be a place that all of Moffat County and the State of Colorado can be proud of for a very long time.”
The new courthouse building project was on time, under budget, and paid for without raising any taxes for the citizens of Moffat County.
Judges from throughout the 14th Judicial District, which includes Routt, Moffat, and Grand counties, as well as local officials attended the ceremony Friday afternoon.
