A very sick bear that was having trouble walking, and didn’t respond to anyone or anything, was put down by Colorado Parks and Wildlife officers Saturday. A necropsy is being done to see why it was so sick. It was in the Fish Creek Falls Road area and had been called in by several concerned residents. The local CPW office says it’s OK to give them a call if you have a concern about a sick or injured animal.

Routt County Commissioner Tim Corrigan asked who in the room was there opposed to the SBT GRVL race to raise their hands.
Frustrated ranchers and rural Routt County residents packed into the Routt County Commissioners hearing room Monday, to talk about why they don’t like the SBT GRVL race in late August. About 70 attended and they say there are 536 property owners along the 128-miles of county roads for the race. They’re concerned about safety and liability, and how the county roads are incompatible for a bike race with 3,000 participants.
Routt County Commissioners will be reviewing the Special Events permit, which costs $200 for an event of over 1,000 participants. Commissioner Tim Redmond says public safety is the #1 concern and this issue has to be addressed. He also noted that the registration page for next year’s SBT GRVL race is set up, but that event organizers do not have permit at this time. He closed the meeting with the many ranchers in the room with, “We do understand that you are our constituents.”

Colorado State Patrol has a few extra things to watch for in the fall, like deer and elk because it’s mating season and they often travel in groups. Deer are most active during dawn and dusk. Watch for fog in the valleys. Cold temperatures overnight can create morning frost on the roads. This is the season for quick changes in weather to some sloppy snow. Check your tire pressure or schedule your snow tires to be put on. And the days are shorter, meaning less visibility.
