The new park in the Brooklyn neighborhood has been officially dedicated. This is along River Road, behind Howelsen Ice Arena as you approach the Brooklyn neighborhood
The ceremony was Thursday afternoon and the playground was packed with happy kids. Angela Cosby is the Parks and Recreation Director for the City of Steamboat Springs.
“This is awesome. Such a big turnout. I’m looking at a couple hundred people enjoying this brand new playground, getting active, playing outside and recreating. It’s what our community is about.”
Also speaking at the grand opening was Aaron Stafford who is the Project Manager for Steamboat Springs Parks and Recreation. He oversaw installation.
Calder Young is the Chair of the Parks and Rec Commission for the City of Steamboat Springs.
The playground is designated for two different age groups. It has a soft rubber flooring throughout. The new Brooklyn Park playground replaced the oldest playground in town.
A face painter and a balloon man were also at the ceremony.

New Playground & Improvements Unveiled At Brooklyn Park
Community Invited To Celebrate At Grand Opening Event Next Week
STEAMBOAT SPRINGS, COLORADO-September 27, 2023-A new state-of-the-art playground and several park improvements in Brooklyn Park will soon unleash the inner child in all of us when the new facility officially opens in early October. Contractors removed the existing outdated playground structure in July to make way for new equipment, as well as sidewalk and landscaping improvements in the park.
“As the oldest playground currently in our parks system, we are excited to revitalize this area and provide new and unique play opportunities for our community”, stated Parks & Recreation Project Manager Aaron Stafford. “We look forward to sharing this amazing new amenity with everyone early next month.”
A grand opening celebration will take place at Brooklyn Park on Thursday, Oct. 19. This fun, community focused event will include a short presentation with ribbon cutting ceremony at about 4:15 p.m., followed by playground fun and free play from 4:30-6 p.m.
The new playground offers increased play opportunities, with a strong focus on ADA play features to benefit a diverse community. The playground includes a two- to five-year-old age group play area that is independent from the 5-12 age group area. The playground structure was manufactured by Burke Commercial Playgrounds and includes numerous state-of-the-art play features including a Brava Universal Swing, Viper Slide, Stability Sanctuary and more!
“Playgrounds are key in the development of children and their physical, social and emotional skills,” continued Stafford. “Not only can kids express their fun-loving nature in a safe outdoor environment, but their imaginations will run wild too on these contemporary interactive play features.”
In addition to the playground structure, the project included installation of a new water/energy efficient irrigation system, a new sidewalk through the park connecting Agate Street directly to the playground, and other landscape improvements.

Thursday, Oct. 19 tendrá lugar una gran fiesta de inauguración en Brooklyn Park. Este divertido evento, centrado en la comunidad, incluirá una breve presentación con ceremonia de corte de cinta desde aproximadamente las 16:15 hasta las 16:30, seguido de diversión en el parque infantil y juego libre desde las 16:30 hasta las 18:00. Además de explorar las nuevas características del parque infantil, habrá un artista de globos y un pintor de caras, y los asistentes podrán disfrutar de un sabroso tentempié de la máquina de palomitas y bebidas frías.
El nuevo parque infantil ofrece mayores oportunidades de juego, con un fuerte enfoque en las características de juego ADA para beneficiar a una comunidad diversa. El parque infantil incluye una zona de juegos para niños de 2 a 5 años, independiente de la zona para niños de 5 a 12 años. La estructura del parque fue fabricada por Burke Commercial Playgrounds e incluye numerosos elementos de juego de última generación, como un columpio universal Brava, un tobogán Viper, un santuario de estabilidad y mucho más.
“Los parques infantiles son clave en el desarrollo de los niños y de sus habilidades físicas, sociales y emocionales”, continuó Stafford. “Los niños no sólo pueden expresar su naturaleza lúdica en un entorno seguro al aire libre, sino que también pueden dar rienda suelta a su imaginación en estos juegos interactivos contemporáneos”.
Además de la estructura del parque infantil, el proyecto incluía la instalación de un nuevo sistema de riego eficiente en el consumo de agua y energía, una nueva acera que atraviesa el parque y conecta la calle Ágata directamente con el parque infantil, y otras mejoras paisajísticas.
