Colorado State Patrol out of Northwest Colorado has reached out to us to remind everyone to be safe over the Thanksgiving holiday. Local law enforcement is sending reminders to slow down, don’t drink and drive, don’t get distracted, and wear a seatbelt. They’ll be out there watching.
Press release from Colorado State Patrol in Northwest Colorado; Nov. 21, 2023.
Troopers continue to take a low-tolerance approach to the top fatal crash factors, including lane violations, impaired driving and speeding while launching a yearlong campaign called “Drive Safe.” This campaign reminds people to reflect on everything they love and value and plan a sober ride when planning to celebrate.
Northwestern Colorado Law Enforcement Team Up for Highway Safety Over Thanksgiving Holiday
(COLORADO) – Northwest Colorado: The Thanksgiving Holiday is said to be one of the busiest travel periods of the year, bringing tens of thousands of highway users out to celebrate the holiday with family and friends. Sadly, in 2022, four families lost a loved one on Colorado highways over the Thanksgiving weekend.
As we did last year, law enforcement agencies across the Northwest Colorado will be teaming up to make our highways safer over the holiday weekend by conducting a surge operation. This operations are meant to bring the highest visibility of law enforcement to the areas where crashes are most likely to occur. Troopers, officers and deputies will educate and enforce traffic laws to ensure everybody makes it to their destination safely.
While increased law enforcement presence helps, we can’t do it alone. We need your help to make the highways safe.
- Travel at a safe speed. While the posted speed limit may be appropriate on a warm summer day, the safe speed may be much less than the posted speed limit during inclement weather.
- Don’t drive distracted. If you are the driver, give your cell phone to a passenger to handle your texts and navigation.
- Wear a seatbelt and always wear it properly. Seatbelts are most effective if worn properly.
- Make sure children are buckled in the right seats for their ages and sizes. For more information on child passenger safety, please visit Car Seats Colorado at cdot.gov/safety/carseats
- Drive sober. While this should go without saying, impaired drivers are still out there. Don’t drive impaired by drugs or alcohol. It’s just not worth it.
