It has been a snow globe of a weekend. Steamboat Springs residents woke up to nearly a foot of new snow on the mountain on Sunday and it kept falling. Rabbit Ears Pass was closed for awhile Sunday morning. Many folks stayed home and shoveled out. Sign up for emergency alerts from your county to know when roads are closed.

Go to RouttCountyAlerts.com

Sign up in Moffat County through the Sheriff’s Office website at Crimewatch.net or look for the Office of Emergency Management on the Moffat County Government page.

A vehicle that was being driven erratically eventually was stopped in Steamboat Springs late last week. It was first reported in Moffat County where deputies tried to stop it, but had to end the pursuit as it headed towards Hayden. Routt County Sheriff’s officers and Steamboat Police were ready when it pulled into Steamboat. They were eventually able to disable the driver who has been identified as Nellie Rodriguez, who is from Rawlins, Wyoming. She was arrested and has multiple charges, and has a court date this afternoon.

A traffic stop near Curve Court in Steamboat Springs resulted in a find of 5.8 pounds of suspected cocaine. The Sheriff K9 Winston gave the alert on the vehicle and the subsequent search. The driver was arrested and booked into the Routt County Jail for possession with the intent to distribute a controlled substance, and received a $250K bond.

Tri-State Generation & Transmission has announced it will close the three units at the Craig Station in September 2028. Originally, Unit 3 was supposed to close in 2030. But now the timeline for the shutdown of the coal-fired power plant has been accelerated.

The Bear Creek Animal Shelter in Craig says they have 21 new cats and kittens available for adoption. They’d love your help in finding homes for them. You can see the cats on Petfinder.com  Search Moffat County.

Historic Routt County will be designating the Veterans Center Building as an historic landmark today. The plaque will be presented at 4 p.m. at the Veterans Center, 924 Lincoln Ave., in recognition of the building’s historic and architectural importance to the City of Steamboat Springs.

The Steamboat Springs School District Board of Education meets at 4:30 p.m. today, at Steamboat Springs Middle School. The board will select officers.

“Our EMS crew and the employees from our hospital put together lots of donations for our kids and our seniors because we know that there are people who are struggling at this time of year and we are doing everything we can to support the community that supports us all year long.”

Final numbers are still coming in but we think over $20,000 was raised for Christmas for Kids, Christmas for Seniors, the Interfaith Food Bank, and Open Heart Advocates, with many many toys and bikes and balls and games and food and gifts donated. There are all kinds of happy pictures on the KRAI & 55 Country Facebook page.
