More vehicle thefts are being reported in Routt County and the Steamboat Springs area today.
This time, it is from the Silver Spur neighborhood, west of Steamboat Springs. It involved at least six cars in the neighborhood, with four thefts. No vehicles were damaged and no forceable entry because Sgt. J.D. Paul with the Routt County Sheriff’s Office says all vehicles were unlocked.
“It’s just imperative that people lock their doors. We are trying to step up our extra patrols in the area at night. That way we have a presence in the area, but unfortunately we can’t be everywhere at once. So people just need to make sure they are locking their doors in their vehicles and their homes. It’s always good to just be safe.”
Sgt. Paul says they don’t know if it is an individual or group of people. The vehicles were either in the driveway or on the street. It is happening late at night.
Steamboat Springs Police Sgt. Sam Silva says they have received reports of three more vehicles vandalized in the area of Cherry Drive today, for a total of seven now. Steamboat II also had some vehicles that someone got into. Once again, all were unlocked.
